NEW ORLEANS _ Why the Patriots?
Why not the Dolphins?
Isn't that what you were wondering?
It is easy to see how the Rams got here. Have you ever seen a snaking powerline go down, spraying sparks and spewing electricity? That's the St. Louis offense. Dangerous. High-voltage. Best viewed from a safe distance. South Floridians saw that power for themselves when the Dolphins returned from St. Louis with nothing but a 42-10 scorch ... um, score.
But the Patriots?
The Patriots are not a snaking power line. The Patriots aren't even a light switch. They are, like their droning coach, unfathomably dull. Their offensive game plans are designed to bore opposing linebackers and safeties to sleep and then have Antowain Smith try very hard not to trip over them. The mighty Steelers didn't talk trash after big hits last week only because they were too busy snoring.
The Patriots are the Super Bowl Falcons and Super Bowl Chargers of recent years, teams thrown into the tank just because the piranhas needed to be fed for the viewing public's entertainment, but why do they get to be devoured instead of the Dolphins?
