PHILADELPHIA _ In marking its World Day for Consecrated Life this weekend, the Roman Catholic Church is pressing the theme "Be Seekers of the Lord."
Not a problem for Mary Ann Johnston. Since her days as a parochial-school girl in Philadelphia, Johnston has felt drawn to "give myself to God." Over time, she felt the Lord was seeking her, in return, in a special way.

So Johnston, 54, decided to become an official "consecrated virgin." At this point, she's the only one in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
It's an exalted role that places her in the very heart of the church as "the bride of Christ." Johnston even wears a symbolic wedding ring, presented to her by Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua in a consecration ceremony a decade ago.
