Occasionally, a movie comes along that depicts mental illness realistically and comprehensively enough that the mental health community rewards it with an ovation.
That is the case for "A Beautiful Mind."
The film is based on a book chronicling the life of John Nash, a brilliant Nobel Prize- winning mathematician who battled schizophrenia.
"Russell Crowe (who played Nash) said when he accepted the Golden Globe for Best Actor that it's only a movie, but he has no idea about its impact on people," said Dona Constantine, executive director for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Orange County, Calif.
"It's been phenomenal."
