Jan. 19--Behind Ford Motor Co.'s massive restructuring plan is another rebuilding effort: Mending relationships with dealers that had soured after Ford experimented with being a retailer and a parts and service provider, leaving dealers feeling threatened and underappreciated.
"There were a lot of things we were concerned about, particularly that Ford was trying to get into our end of the business," said South Florida auto dealer Phil Smith, who owns 15 vehicle franchises, including a Ford store in Pompano.
Dealers also worried as shaky new vehicle launches and a public spat with Bridgestone/Firestone over who was to blame for deadly rollovers of the Ford Explorer …
