COLLEGE PARK, Md. _ Cole Field House had been so good to North Carolina, too.

The Tar Heels had beaten host Maryland 29 times in 46 games and were 6-0 in NCAA tournament play here, using Cole as a two-win layover en route to Final Four appearances in 1967, `69 and `77.

Wednesday night, the big ol' barn got even.

The No. 4 Terps flattened the Tar Heels, 112-79, the most points scored against UNC in its 2,406-game history and Maryland's biggest margin of victory in the 156-game series.

"If that's not the best they can play," said forward Jason Capel, "I'm scared to see what is."
