DETROIT _ Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman said Tuesday he thought he would return tonight against Anaheim. He practiced for the first time since suffering a bruised lower left leg last Wednesday night at Minnesota.
"It's fine," Yzerman said.
Yzerman took a shot between the top of his skate and the bottom of his shin pad, where there is no protection. Although he was on crutches at first, X rays and an MRI were negative, and he was off the crutches in a day or so.
Yzerman skated on his own for a few minutes Sunday, but the leg was still too sore. Monday morning, before the Wings faced Minnesota again, he skated with a few teammates.
