Thank you for the well-researched November article regarding expansion of the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee.
Although this "court of last resort" has indeed doubled the amount of Hall of Fame inductees, it would appear the veterans do not vote any differently than the writers regarding representation in the Hall by position. If anything, both groups tend to over-represent pitching (31 percent of all non-Negro League and non-player selections), while significantly under-representing third basemen (five percent).
I fail to believe that only nine third basemen in history are worthy of enshrinement. As a result. I was gratified to read that Milo Hamilton (Houston announcer) believes expansion of the Veterans Committee may help the chances of Ron Santo.
Santo is currently the single most deserving player snubbed by the writers, and he is better than current third base inductees Fred Lindstrom, George Kell and Franklin (Home Run) Baker.

As a member of the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee since January, 1979, I was interested in the article on the Veterans Committee realignment in the November issue, but I don't agree with all the opinions expressed.
I happen to think the Hall of Fame will be more difficult to get into via the Veterans Committee than before. Several times, our committee elected no one, but I never thought that was a disaster, and I never saw a choice "forced" on anyone.
