IRVING, Texas _ In a memorable vignette from ``Cool Hand Luke,'' Paul Newman says that he can eat 50 boiled eggs in an hour. Naturally, this prompts the kind of action that has fellow inmate George Kennedy covered up in bets. But contrary to the good ol' boy demeanor he wears like a king's mantle, Kennedy is no village idiot, and in private he questions his partner's enthusiasm for the project.
Kennedy: "Why couldn't you just say 30, or 35?"
Newman: "Yeah, well. Seemed like a nice round number."
The scene came to mind when you picked up the paper Friday morning and read how Jerry Jones is putting a whole bunch of eggs in one basket this fall, predicting that one measly season holds 10 victories for the Cowboys.
Ten.
Now most observers might think such a prediction puts undue pressure on the head coach, whose job security is often determined by expectations and how they're met.
Dave Campo swears it didn't bother him in the least. Still, you got the feeling that he must have pulled Jones aside later, as he was diagramming victories on cocktail napkins, and asked why the heck he couldn't have said six or even eight.
