EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. _ So much has been made of Colorado's Ray Bourque, you'd think he was Babe Ruth. Well, Thursday night made him seem at least a little Ruthian.

Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals with the New Jersey Devils was tied at 1 after two periods. Just 31 seconds into the third, Bourque ripped a slap shot into the net and went wild, gliding to center ice, left knee bent, right leg dragging, right fist pumping, gray-speckled goatee surrounding a grin.

"For me," Bourque said, "that goal was awesome."

It was Bourque's first in the finals since May 15, 1990, when he scored in Game 1 for Boston against Edmonton. Thursday's goal made him the oldest man, at 40, to score in the finals. It also turned out to be the game-winner, as Colorado took a 3-1 victory and a 2-1 series lead over New Jersey.

Better yet, Bourque called his shot. In the dressing room during the second intermission, someone said something like: Who's gonna get the next one? The question wasn't really a question. It was a challenge, one often made in that room in that situation.

Bourque stood up and said something like: I'll get it.

Then he got it.
