LEXINGTON, Ky. _ In the basketball world, it's not as momentous as Jim Jeffords throwing control of the Senate to the Democrats. But close enough to make Kentucky fans feel as good as new Senate majority leader Tom Daschle.
Tayshaun Prince intends to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft and return to UKfor his senior season.
"He told me, `Mom, I'm going back to school,' " the player's mother, Diane Prince, said Thursday. "He wants to finish his senior year."
Prince's decision returns the reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Year to Kentucky. His stellar 2000-2001 season also saw Prince named a second-team All-American.
After the season, UK Coach Tubby Smith projected Prince as a serious contender for national player of the year as a college player next season. With the addition of forward Jules Camara, who sat out last season after a drunken-driving conviction, Prince's return figures to give Kentucky a pre-season top-five ranking.
Whether UK's other double-digit scorer from last season, guard Keith Bogans, returns remains in the air. His mother, Joy, said Thursday that Bogans planned to play in the NBA's annual pre-draft camp in Chicago next week.
Bogans plans to make a decision about his basketball future after playing in the Chicago camp, which begins Tuesday and runs through June 11.
