Tony voters had until 4 p.m. Friday to get their ballots in to New York accounting firm Lutz and Carr, after which they were free to do something besides put check marks by "The Producers."
Mel Brooks' musical comedy, nominated in 15 categories, "is going to set the record of winning the most Tony Awards ever," predicts Sherry Eaker, editor in chief of Back Stage, a weekly performing-arts newspaper in New York.
Among nonmusicals, Eaker expects "Proof," David Auburn's play about a mathematician and his daughter, to dominate.
A Tony voter, Broadwayologist Eaker shares some prognostications (not necessarily her own choices):
Musical: "The Producers"
Revival of a musical: "42nd Street"
Leading actor, musical: Nathan Lane, "The Producers"
