DETROIT _ The German shepherd puppy was scruffy and underfed when Cindy Stiles found her wandering along railroad tracks in Ecorse, Mich., last August.
She took the dog to the veterinarian, nursed her back to health and fed her sausages every morning at McDonald's.
Three weeks ago, shortly before the morning walk for breakfast, Stiles let Sadie out in the backyard and never saw her alive again.
The 1-year-old shepherd was found cut in two on the same railroad tracks, a few blocks from where Stiles lives.
Stiles said she thinks her pet was taken from her backyard and tied to the tracks by three, possibly four, teenage boys. And it's not just a hunch: She said a classmate of the boys told her they were bragging about the death during school the next day.
Ecorse police are investigating the incident and said those responsible could face criminal charges.
Stiles said she is frustrated the investigation has taken so long.
