DENVER_The New Jersey Devils hit the Colorado Avalanche with a surprise attack Tuesday night in the second game of the Stanley Cup finals. Bob Corkum and Turner Stevenson threw the unexpected 1-2 scoring punch that enabled the Devils to knock off the Avalanche 2-0 and even the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.
It was the first goal of the playoffs for both players.
Stevenson, who hadn't scored in 17 games, deflected Scott Niedermayer's shot from the perimeter past Patrick Roy to break a 1-1 tie at 17 minutes 20 seconds of the first period.
