The bowling shoe has leapt from rental to runway.

Those smooth-soled, color-blocked, lace-up sport shoes are being morphed by labels such as Camper, Prada and Kenneth Cole.

"I think this trend is a part of our reliance on retro," said Karen Koza, spokeswoman for The Fashion Association, a trade group. "Also, one of the biggest accessories during the last two seasons has been the Prada bowling bag. This is just an extension of that. It's an athletic piece, but it's not a sneaker. It's really a sporty version of a spectator (shoe)."
