FONTANA, Calif. _ One lap was all Bobby Hamilton Jr. needed Friday.
Each NASCAR Grand National driver had two laps to qualify for Saturday's Auto Club 300 at California Speedway (3:30 p.m., Fox), but Hamilton insisted all he needed was one.
He turned his lap into his first series pole with a lap at 179.198 mph. Tony Raines was second, followed by rookie and series points leader Greg Biffle.
