Some final thoughts on the Texas race while waiting for a flight out of DFW
Smooth move
Give Johnny Benson's team credit for taking a chance to win the race. Their decision to stay out on the final yellow flag while everyone else pitted resulted in a third-place finish, which was almost certainly better than Benson would have finished had he pitted. Even better, the team chose not to pit because that decision gave them their best chance to win the race. That's what it's all about.
Black flag
Changing four tires turned out to be the right strategy on the final yellow flag in Sunday's race, but you've still got to do it efficiently for it to do you any good. Dale Earnhardt Jr. came in first but went out ninth on that pit stop, ending any chance he had of repeating as the winner of this race.
By the way
Dale Jarrett is the first driver to win a race this season in which he led the most laps. ...Jarrett won a $20,000 bonus for winning the race while leading the points standings. He won $50,000 as part of the same program in his victory at Darlington two weeks ago.
