MINNEAPOLIS _ The cards are still there, just as they were when Shane Battier attended Birmingham Detroit Country Day.
But the cards no longer refer to winning state championships or the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award or making the starting lineup as a college freshman.
"I have four index cards on my desk with four simple goals," Battier said Sunday. "The first was to win player of the year. The second was to be an Academic All-America. The third was to be first-team All-America. The fourth was to win a national championship."
Three down, one to go.
Battier can accomplish goal No. 4 Monday night when he leads Duke into the NCAA national championship game against Arizona at 9:18 p.m.
This game will end an incredible collegiate career for Battier, who has come so far since he was growing up in a racially mixed household in Birmingham.
