HOLLYWOOD_Lori McGuire and Alicia Ashley arrived in Hollywood from Orange County, Calif., on Saturday ready to survive an audition: Camera-ready lipstick. Sprayed-in place coifs. Shorts. Low-fat candy. Bottled water. Beach chairs. Magazines.
Oh yeah, and reasons why they deserve to be on the next season of ``Survivor," the CBS television series in its second year of being an American phenomenon.
In line with the duo were more than 1,500 people looking for a slice of fame. The first people to try out had been standing in line at the CBS studio lot since 11 a.m. Friday.
By midday Saturday, the line wrapped around the block like a giant human bracelet.
Their chances to survive for a shot at the show came down to the three-minute sales pitch of their lives.
Over and over, bored-looking cameramen and women heard a variation of the same lines. ``I get along with other people really well," or ``I'm mentally and physically tough."
Of the estimated 1,500 tryouts, only two stood out, said one ``Survivor" audition staff member who declined to give her name. She said those two were animated, lively and, yes, attractive.
