HEBRON, West Bank_A procession of about 3,000 Orthodox Jews snaked its way through predominantly Arab Hebron on Sunday to bury 10-month-old Shalhevet Pass, who was killed by Palestinian sniper fire last Monday.

The mourners, many wearing laminated photographs of the baby around their necks, called for revenge. Graffiti reading "death to Arabs" seconded them, and they vowed to storm the Palestinian neighborhood of Abu Sanina, which sits atop a nearby hill. Israel handed the Hebron hilltop to PLO leader Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority under a 1997 agreement

"The Jews will again sit on that hilltop. We will not let them (the Israeli government) sit and watch the Arabs kill people," said Hebron community spokesman David Wilder. "Eventually the army will be there. The question is at what price."

Shalhevet Pass's funeral had been delayed six days as Hebron Jews sought to pressure the army into retaking Abu Sanina to "prevent more deaths," according to Wilder.

After the funeral several settlers tried to run to Abu Sanina, but were held back by Israeli army troops and police.

Meanwhile Palestinian leaders condemned a separate Israeli operation carried out during the night in another area under Palestinian Authority control. Israeli troops arrested six members of Arafat's Force 17 bodyguard unit in West Bank village of Juljuliyya, near Ramallah. Israel blames Force 17 officers for several recent attacks against Jews.
