AKRON, Ohio _ Leonard Davis might never have to worry about being lonely. His 21 siblings should provide enough nieces and nephews for the Texas offensive tackle known as "Big" to bounce on his massive knees for some time.

But Davis, 6-foot-5} and 362 pounds at his most recent weigh-in, is the only child that his parents, L.A. and Sammie Davis, had after the two married. Sammie, then a widow, had 10 children from her first union; L.A., then a widower, had 11.

Considering Davis' measurements, it makes one wonder what would have happened had nature not taken its course, as his mother put it, and she had delivered No. 23.

"We would have offered him (a scholarship) when he came out," Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis said.

There is an 11-year age difference between Davis and his closest sibling _ Sammie Davis' daughter, Nell, who helped to raise him and the three other children (including a grandson) at home at the time. When Sammie Davis was asked about the age difference between Davis and the oldest sibling, she said: "I don't know. I'd have to go look up the papers."

There's a 56-year span between L.A. Davis, 78, and Leonard, 22.

Three of Davis' brothers _ Charlie, Donald and Lynn _ played football at TCU. Charlie, a defensive tackle, spent 10 years in the pros with the Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Cardinals and the USFL's Houston Gamblers.
