CHICAGO _ Ray and Lynn Lieber will take their seats in the family section at Wrigley Field long before their son Jon takes the mound on Opening Day.
Their hearts will race and their nerves will be tested once Jon delivers the first pitch of the Cubs' 2001 season.
But they can take comfort in knowing that whether Jon throws a no-hitter or gets knocked out in the first inning, the postgame festivities will go on.
As fate would have it, Jon turns 31 on Monday.
"No matter what happens," he said, "after I leave the field, that's where it stays. I wouldn't spoil anything because of (my performance)."
Typical Lieber.
"That's the way he is about everything," pitching coach Oscar Acosta said. "He never gets flustered or frustrated."
