Wrong Standard, New Standard?

Lighting article brings more response, but are our energy standards good?

Sam Berman's comments on lighting ("The Coming Revolution in Lighting Practice," October EUN) prompted another reader to congratulate us for publishing the article. While we are grateful for the nice remarks, I believe that Sam is the proper recipient of the praise. I know that a number of readers have also contacted Sam directly. On the other hand, readers provided critical comment about other EUN features.

Berman Redux

Dear Editor:

Thanks for publishing the Dr. Sam Berman article "The Coming Revolution in Lighting Practice" (October EUN). I am impressed that you took the time to do the article and gave it so much space. The message is long overdue and continues to be ignored by the lighting industry.

The lighting industry continues to focus on inexpensive lamps that produce "harsh" light that creates lighting environments that are not as comfortable and productive as they could be. Employee "unproductivity" affects the bottom line in every business. The misapplication of light from a functional viewpoint is all around us.
