AUSTIN, TX--President-elect George W. Bush announced his intention to name Spencer Abraham, former United States Senator from Michigan, as Secretary of Energy, and New Jersey Governor Christie Todd Whitman to be Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Bush said, "Senator Spencer Abraham has spent the past six years taking the lead on energy issues in the United States Senate, and I look forward to having him as part of my team."
Abraham, 48, has spent the past six years serving the state of Michigan in the U.S. Senate, where he worked on the Budget; Commerce, Science and Transportation; and Small Business committees. According to the Bush transition organization, Abraham took the lead on many important energy issues. He fought for lower gas taxes and supported decreasing the United States' dependence on foreign oil by opening up portions of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge ...
