Mar. 6--SOME FIRMS WILL HIRE DESPITE ECONOMIC SLUMP, TEMP AGENCY SAYS: Amid the rash of layoffs that has hit the area, there are still many businesses looking to hire workers this spring.
Manpower Inc., a temporary staffing agency, said it expects "moderate job growth" for the Kansas City area during the second quarter of 2001. According to Manpower, 23 percent of employers in its quarterly survey are looking to add staff during the period.
During the same period last year, 17 percent of companies surveyed were looking to hire more people.
