Another corporate split of Lufthansa Cargo may say plenty about where world freight is going

In all honesty, how could such a colossus as Lufthansa Cargo continue in its current unwieldy form? Something had to give. Well, hardly. But barely five years on from the clinical separation from its parent airline, it seems Lufthansa Cargo is all set to implode on itself.

As of the new year, Lufthansa Cargo is splitting into three separate businesses. Each of the units will now be accountable for their own destiny and financial results.

What will be known as "Global Cargo Net" will be responsible for what apparently is the carrier's new core activity: strictly airport-to-airport air cargo business. This will include the four key strands of sales, marketing, network and business development.
