BEREA, Ohio _ Browns coach Butch Davis wasted no time filling the two top jobs on his staff, Thursday naming Foge Fazio defensive coordinator and Bruce Arians offensive coordinator.
That could be good news for Tim Couch, Corey Fuller and Stalin Colinet.
Fazio, 61, takes over for Romeo Crennel, who was hired Thursday as defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots. Crennel, 53, has a long history with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, serving with him on the New York Giants' staff from 1981-90 and the New York Jets' staff from 1997-99.
Fazio spent the past season as linebackers coach of the Washington Redskins. But the previous four years, Fazio served as Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator, where he directed Browns cornerback Fuller and defensive tackle Colinet.
A former center and linebacker at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a teammate of Mike Ditka, Fazio has been coaching for 34 years, the past 12 in the NFL. He was head coach at Pitt (1982-85) and worked at Harvard, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. In the pros, Fazio also has been with Atlanta and the New York Jets.
