CHICAGO _ Hitting 6-for-10 three-pointers in the second half and overtime, Jonathan Schneiderman dragged Illinois-Chicago back into the land of the living Thursday night.
But when overtime ended, coach Rollie Massimino and Cleveland State had a 65-64 victory on the road, a rare prize in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.
Schneiderman, 6-foot-1-inch 162-pound Flames sophomore from Forreston, Ill., tied the score 56-56 and sent the game into overtime when he knocked down his fifth three-pointer with one minute remaining in regulation.
As the final overtime seconds were ticking away with Cleveland up 65-61, Schneiderman fired his final three-point attempt of the night. As it nestled into the net, he raised his hands.
"I was trying to call time out, hoping there might be a second or two left," said Schneiderman, who scored 19 points. "But it was over."
A crowd of 4,738 at the Pavilion watched Massimino's Vikings (14-9, 6-2 MWC) win their first conference road game of the season. The Flames (9-11, 3-4) lost their first MCC game at home.
"Road wins are so hard to get because of the parity in this league," Massimino said. "I think our champion will lose four conference games."
