MEMPHIS MANIAX: Defense shows promise
STADIUM: Liberty Bowl, Memphis, Tenn.
COACH: Kippy Brown.
COORDINATORS: Rich McGeorge (offense) and Walt Corey (defense).
TERRITORIAL ASSIGNMENTS: Memphis, Mississippi State, Tennessee.
KEY PLAYERS: QB Marcus Crandell (former NFL Europe and Canadian Football League starter was Maniax's first pick); WR Alvin Harper (Frostproof native who played at Tennessee and also on two Super Bowl teams with the Cowboys); RB Brent Moss (led Wisconsin to Rose Bowl win 1994); FB Roosevelt Potts (played with Dolphins, Ravens and Colts); RB Rashaan Salaam (1994 Heisman Trophy winner).
X-FACTOR: The offensive talent is impressive, and the Maniax just might have the best defense in the XFL. The defensive front will be especially strong, with DE Shante Carver, a former Dallas Cowboys player, and Antonio Anderson, a former all-rookie choice with the Cowboys.
