MIAMI _ Derrick Gibson is right where he wants to be.
He's playing at home for a national championship, ending a stellar career at Florida State and on the verge of the NFL.
This is not a coincidence.
This was Gibson's plan years ago when he left Miami Killian High and chose FSU over a long list of suitors. Gibson didn't just choose FSU, he sought out his future by going to the source.
Gibson is just one in a long line of high school superstar defensive backs from Miami who have made the move to Tallahassee, then the NFL. So when Gibson was trying to decide which college to choose, he asked the people who knew the answer.
Gibson went to Samari Rolle, Devin Bush, Shevin Smith and Sean Key.
Rolle and Bush squared off last year in the Super Bowl. Rolle, who was a two-way star at Miami Beach High, plays for Tennessee. Bush, a star at Hialeah-Miami Lakes, plays for the St. Louis Rams. Smith won at Southridge High long before he played for the Rams, and Key, a flashy star at American High, is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys. All four played in FSU's secondary.
