MIAMI _ It is wrong enough that this fraud national-championship game includes a Florida State team that doesn't belong in it. It is doubly absurd, though, to see FSU led by a millionaire quarterback who has no business playing among amateurs.
Chris Weinke is a pro.
His presence here is a con.
That a balding, 28-year-old millionaire could win the trophy that best represents amateurism in this country is a shining tribute to the sham that is college football, the hypocrisy no more acceptable just because it is bronzed.
But how in the name of John Heisman have we gotten to the point where we reward a man so richly for dominating boys?
Weinke was born July 31 of 1972.
