MIAMI _ After getting New Year's Eve off, the Panthers didn't get the next most important thing _ New Year's Day off. Instead, they practiced at Incredible Ice in Coral Springs before flying to Los Angeles for the start of this week's road trip.
Monday and Tuesday were the first full practices under new coach Duane Sutter, who replaced the fired Terry Murray on Thursday. The Panthers, 1-1 since Sutter took over, open their four-game trip at Anaheim on Wednesday.
"Everyone's looking forward to the practices," Panthers defenseman Dan Boyle said after Saturday's 4-1 loss to Toronto. "We know what he wants. But it would be nice to have a couple of practices under our belt to know exactly what he's looking for."
It won't be much different from Murray. Sutter said he wouldn't change much of the Xs and Os. That might be to the Panthers' advantage because that was Murray's strength, while the Sutter family's strength behind the bench has been to transmit their on-ice intensity to their team.
