ORLANDO, Fla. _ University of Michigan tailback Anthony Thomas ran into the record books Monday.
But his biggest carry of the day in the Citrus Bowl _ in which Michigan defeated Auburn, 31-28 _ wasn't his touchdown run from 11 yards out that made him the school's all-time leading rusher with 4,472 yards. His biggest carry of the day came moments later.
With the football tucked safely under one arm, Thomas waded through a sea of slap-happy teammates, jogged to the corner of the end zone and delivered the ball to his jubilant wife, Hayley.
"It was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing," said Thomas. He and his wife are celebrating their 10-month anniversary today.
"I wanted to give her something to let her know how I feel. It was something special to me, and I wanted her to be apart of it."
Hayley was stunned though she knows her husband often lets his actions speak louder than his words.
"I was so surprised," she said, sounding a bit breathless and overwhelmed. "I'm just, I'm just so clueless right now."
