DALLAS _ Casey Clausen, Tennessee's freshman quarterback, had been drawing comparisons to a former Volunteer you might have heard of.
Peyton Manning.
That's quite a load to bear, and Clausen crumbled under the weight of such ludicrous comparisons Monday in the Cotton Bowl against Kansas State.
After a pretty good start, Clausen hit a stretch where he could do nothing right. Tennessee's offense bogged down and K-State beat the Vols, 35-21, in a game that wasn't that close.
Clausen had Tennessee fans excited after taking over as the starter following a traumatic 2-3 start. He sparked the Vols to a six-game winning streak going into their game against Kansas State.
But he wasn't ready for what he saw Monday, a big rush from K-State defensive ends Chris Johnson and Monty Beisel and confusing coverage schemes by the Wildcats' secondary that resulted in three killer interceptions.
After completing 5 of his first 9 pass attempts for 105 yards, Clausen went into a 1 for 14 funk for four yards and two interceptions.
