TAMPA, Fla. _ Take that, Ohio State.
South Carolina's Ryan Brewer, the player the Buckeyes didn't want, showed them what they're missing.
The former Mr. Football in Ohio rushed for 109 yards, caught three passes worth 92 more and carried the Gamecocks to a 24-7 win Monday in the Outback Bowl.
In one season, the Gamecocks went from winless to winners on New Year's Day. And Brewer, the player who epitomizes USC's underdog role more than any other, the one thought too small and too slow, was at the core of it.
When the game was over, Brewer's teammates rallied around him and carried him off the field on their shoulders.
"This has to be the greatest moment of my life," said Brewer, who talked while holding the Outback Bowl MVP trophy in his arms. "I still can't believe it's happening. As far as the whole recruiting thing, hopefully we've closed the book on that and we can lock it up."
The chants of "Brewer, Brewer" from the 30,000-plus USC fans in Raymond James Stadium dominated much of the game's final minutes.
