COSTLY PENALTY
Florida tailback Robert Gillespie cost his team 15 yards on an unsportsmanlike penalty that led to a missed extra point by Jeff Chandler. Gillespie, who is from Hattiesburg, Miss., was caught directing the Florida band after teammate Jabar Gaffney caught a touchdown pass from Rex Grossman to cut the deficit to 24-23 with 2:41 left in the third quarter. Subsequently, Chandler's kick was from 35 yards instead of 20.
"I thought that was a little chicken-crap call," Florida Coach Steve Spurrier said. "Robert said he was directing our band over there. If they want to call it, they can call it. It is unfortunate."
