MILWAUKEE _ Vice President Al Gore on Tuesday sharply rejected the contentions of Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush that America's military is unprepared, telling thousands of veterans that the nation's forces are the strongest in the world and pledging to keep them so.

"I say to you today: I love this country with all my heart, and I will make sure our military continues to be the best-trained, best- equipped, best-led fighting force in the world _ bar none," Gore told a convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
