There are any number of ways the China trade bill can be derailed, an outcome that would be contrary to U.S. national interests. There is only one way to make sure it is not derailed. That is for the Senate to vote on it _ right now.

Normalizing trade relations doesn't mean the U.S. and China won't continue to disagree seriously on issues from missile defense to Taiwan to nuclear proliferation to workers' rights. But holding this hard-fought historic bill hostage to any of those other thorny issues is a mistake.
