KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ Undaunted by early results, Rangers manager Johnny Oates has kept his relievers in their appointed roles and keeps bringing them in at the appointed time. Lately the results have been much more gratifying, although still somewhat nerve-wracking.
Oates when through it last night when Jeff Zimmerman put the tying run on second base with no outs in the eighth inning and John Wetteland got in a first-and-third jam with one out in the ninth.
But both pitchers, showing their All-Star grit from last year, kept their cool, their calm and the tying run from scoring, allowing the Rangers to hold on to a 4-3 victory...
