BASF Set to Buy Rohm and Haas Coatings Business.

BASF Coatings AG (Muenster, Germany) plans to acquire the industrial coatings business of Rohm and Haas Co. (Philadelphia) for a reported $175 million. The acquisition, which would add to BASF's stock of coil-coating holdings, is subject to approval by international authorities.

Last September, BASF acquired the coil-coatings business of Norsk Hydro ASA (Oslo, Norway). Company officials say that industrial coatings accounted for about 20% of BASF'S total global coatings sales in 1999.
