ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.--In a collaborative effort between an energy provider and a major customer, the Utilities Division of the city of Rocky Mount, N.C., has joined forces with one of the region's largest industries, Texfi Inc., to reduce peak electrical demand and increase natural gas loads during the summer months-a move that benefits each party.
As a member of the North Carolina Gas Cooling Municipal Consortium, Rocky Mount had previously embarked on an aggressive program to increase its summertime gas loads. During the summer of 1996, the utility had a daily gas load of 5,000 to 8,000 dekatherms, mostly consumed by homes and restaurants and some agricultural businesses.
