Oct. 8--Two Conejos County men are in Washington, D.C., today to hand-deliver an application they hope will put their impoverished home county on EZ street.
The delegation of two -- Rafael Pablo Ciddio and Felix R. Lopez -- hope to convince federal officials that Conejos County should be one of five rural areas to be designated as and EZ/EC -- Empowerment Zone/Enterprise Community. If they are successful, the San Luis Valley county could receive a grant of $2.8 million a year for 10 years.
