WILLIAMSBURG, Va.--Jun. 16--Local businessman Nick Saras is planning to escalate competition for hoteliers on Richmond Road in Williamsburg.
Saras has filed plans with the city for a five-story Hilton Gardens hotel at 1624 Richmond Road. The Hilton would sit behind Saras' Seafare Restaurant and a McDonald's, next to where the Mount Vernon Inn sat. The Mount Vernon was torn down by a different development group to make way for restaurants and hotels. Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar is already in place on that site.
The new hotel's driveway would go through what is now the Raleigh Economy Inn. The Raleigh, a cluster of brick house-like buildings, would be torn down, except for one at the back of the 4.1-acre property.
Plans for the new hotel, filed with the city, resemble a traditional hotel with units that are composed of one large room with a bathroom. The rooms are about 15 feet across, including the bathrooms, and 22 feet deep. The exterior is primarily brick.
