May 30--On Monday morning, Gov. Jim Hunt is expected in Charlotte to join Nucor executives in announcing a $300 million steel mill for an economically depressed county in northeastern North Carolina.
State officials had scheduled a news conference Thursday, but it was called off when negotiations for the land broke down.
Late Friday, Nucor was still wrapping up details to buy about 750 acres from Champion International.
The site is on the Chowan River, near the northeastern N.C. border with Virginia.
