Dec. 11--Former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt, Congressman Mel Watt and several prominent entrepreneurs are buying the landmark McDonald's Cafeteria and neighboring properties run by the late restaurateur John McDonald.

The group is scheduled to announce this morning its plans for developing the historic cafeteria and other McDonald properties on Beatties Ford Road: Fun City and McDonald's Inn, which was damaged last summer in a fire. McDonald's widow, Eunice, closed the businesses in August.
