Nov. 11--Steve Dempsey on Monday was named vice president and chief information officer of The Kansas City Star.

Dempsey, 45, now is chief information officer and assistant vice president for technology at Knight-Ridder Inc. corporate headquarters in Miami. Knight-Ridder is the parent company of The Star.

"Steve is one of the newspaper industry's leading information technology executives, and we are very fortunate to have him here," said Arthur S. Brisbane, The Star's president and publisher.
