PORTAGE, Ind.--Nov. 3--A shortage in Hollywood is trickling down to Portage.

There simply aren't many family movies.

The shortage is evident at the box office of Portage's lone movie theater the Portage 9. The movie house opened in May at Willowcreek Road and U.S. 6 to long lines and a jammed packing lot.

Six months later, that enthusiasm and the novelty of a comfy new theater house has subsided.

In the past two months, the Portage 9 has cut staff schedules and is bucking up for a sluggish fall, even slower than is typical for this time of year. Blockbuster hits that pack the theaters don't tend to hit the screen until …
