Aug. 26--Gateway 2000 has pulled back on plans to begin assembling personal computers this fall at a leased Salt Lake City manufacturing site, saying it instead will wait until its new plant at 5500 W. 2100 South is completed in the spring.
Greg Halford, Gateway human resources manager, said the company re- evaluated its plans after recognizing it may not be able to fully equip a temporary facility near the new $20 million plant in time to make PCs for the holiday season.
Without production during that busy period, the project was not cost- effective, he said.
