MIAMI--Jun. 19--Passengers boarding American Airlines' inaugural nonstop flight from Austin to Miami were startled to find Cuban President Fidel Castro at the gate. Well, not THE Castro, but a convincing-enough double.

"I was so surprised that I shrieked," said Ana Maria Pozo, a Cuban American lawyer who lives in Austin. "Then I asked, `What is this?'"

"This" apparently was American's way to celebrate the start of its nonstop service Sunday between the two cities. A Carmen Miranda look-alike was also on hand.
