Mississippi Air Force Base Has Huge Economic Impact on Community.(Originated from The Sun Herald, Biloxi, Miss.)
KEESLER AFB, Miss.--Apr. 1--Keesler Air Force Base's economic impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast reached nearly $1 billion in fiscal 1996, military officials said Friday.
The base's annual report showed an economic impact of $952 million for the fiscal period Oct. 1, 1995, to Sept. 31, 1996, compared with $828 million for the 1995 fiscal year.
Air Force officials calculate the figure by combining military and civilian salaries with the value of local contracts awarded by the base, aid to public schools, the creation of secondary jobs and other factors.
Real growth for the year rose about $30 million.
