Modern obstetrics has long been plagued with an inability to accurately measure fetal neurologic integrity, and with a limited ability--through fetal heart rate monitoring--to consistently and accurately assess overall fetal well-being. The ability to assess uterine contractions with meaningful precision in order to predict the onset of labor has been similarly elusive.
Rather than obtain data merely from electrodes placed on the maternal abdomen, my goal has been to obtain a complete spatial/temporal map of uterine activity, fetal brain activity, and fetal cardiac activity by taking advantage of technology that passively captures patterns produced by magnetic ...
